Agenda Item: Enhancing Civil Aviation Security
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations. It codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and supports the planning and development of international air transport. ICAO was established by ECOSOC on April 4, 1944.
The organization works with 192 member states and industry groups to reach an agreement on international civil aviation Standards and Recommended Practises (SARPs) and policies on behalf of a safe, efficient, secure, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible civil aviation sector. The organization also responsible for numerous aviation development objectives; produces global plans to coordinate multilateral strategic progress for safety and air navigation; monitors and reports on numerous air transport sector performance metrics; and audits Member States’ civil aviation oversight capabilities in areas of safety and security.
ICAO is apt for beginner level delegates.
